Halloween Fun at Knott's Berry Farm

The Fall is finally here and October is one of my favorite months of the year.  October also happens to be the month of Halloween.  I love Halloween, it has been one of my favorite holidays since childhood.  I like to celebrate it all month if possible and what better way than heading to Knott's Berry Farm!!  If your a Halloween enthusiast like me, Knott's has Halloween theme celebrations for both "big kids" (aka Adults) and the little kids.   Between Knott's Scary Farm and Camp Spooky they have all the age ranges covered.

I attend both Knott's Scary Farm and Camp Spooky this year for their media events.  I also was able to share Camp Spooky with my Niece and her son, who is my godson.  It was great to see him smile, enjoy all the rides and shows with Snoopy and The Peanuts Gang. He even got to dress up and show off his Halloween costume.  We experienced Camp Spooky with the little monster.  It's perfect for kids 3-11 yrs old. Like my little monster who is 3.5 yrs old, he loves all the rides and "The Monsters are coming Charlie Brown" show with the Peanuts Gang.  We also enjoyed a mini monster maze and received some treats, not just tricks at the end.  There are lots of other fun activities to enjoy at Camp Spooky like a Peanuts Costume Parade for the kids and Witches Potion Station.

Now's a great time to get your season pass for Knott's, the 2015 season is available for purchase. The prices are great and start as low as $8.50 for 9 months.   If you buy the 2015 season pass now, you will also get one free visit to the park in 2014!  Come and experience Camp Spooky for your self with your little monster.

I was so happy to experience Camp Spooky with my godson, and hope to enjoy more Knott's fun with him next year. I'm getting a 2015 season pass, are you?  I also got to meet Snoopy and shared a Selfie moment together! So who's ready for Halloween at Knott's!!  ME! ME! ME!

Don't miss out and the awesome season pass deals for 2015 and go get your now! Click (here) for all the details Knott's Season Passes.

Disclaimer:  I was invited as media to experience both Scary Farm and Camp Spooky.  Thoughts and opinions expressed on the blog are my own.  If I don't love, I don't blog it!

Menu Tasting: New Breakfast and Sandwiches from Corner Bakery

Corner Bakery is one of those places where I know the food is good and the selection can satisfy any ones palette. I was invited to a media menu tasting for Corner Bakery's new menu items. We were treated to a live cooking demo by Chef Ric, one of the original employees. Did you know Corner Bakery started in Chicago...yeah me either. So what did we get to taste?

pancakes, buttermilk pancakes, bacon, breakfast, chilled berry almond swiss oatmeal, corner bakery, menu tasting,

First up was some new breakfast items, fluffy buttermilk pancakes with fruit and bacon!  I love a good breakfast meal and these pancakes did not disappoint. You can also choose a traditional type of breakfast with eggs, bacon and pancakes. They get a thumbs up from me.  Another item we tasted was the Chilled Berry Almond Swiss Oatmeal.  The first thought that came to mind was..."Eww gross cold oatmeal!"  Since I was there for a menu tasting, well I had to taste it!  To my surprise it is very yummy.  The oatmeal is European muesli with rolled oats, low fat yogurt, green apples, bananas, currants, cranberries and skim milk topped off with a raisin pecan sweet crisp.  Full of fruit, makes it light and refreshing with a bit of crunch and I love the sweet crisp.  It's a really filling and tasty breakfast, definitely a must try item.  I usually don't think of Corner Bakery as a breakfast spot, but now with the pancakes as an option, I sure will be.

spicy pork, asian sandwich, sandwich, corner bakery, asian slaw, pickled jalapenos, french roll, new menu

Let's talk lunch, which I think Corner Bakery is better known for, it's sandwiches. Sometimes I am a creature of habit and tend to order the same items at a restaurant.  I suppose it's safe to order the same thing, I know what I'm getting and it will be good.  My go to sandwich at Corner Bakery has been the Chicken Pomodori Panini.  So when I found out we would try out a new sandwich during this menu tasting I was excited.  A new addition to the sandwich menu at Corner Bakery is the Spicy Asian Pork Sandwich. Yeah that's a mouthful to say and to eat as well.  The sandwich has slow cooked shredded pork, which reminded me of carnitas, with a spicy slaw and Asian BBQ sauce and pickled jalapenos made in house. All in between a buttery toasted french roll, just looking at it made my mouth water.  The pork is very tender, the spicy slaw balances out the flavors, with just enough heat. Along with the Spicy Pork sandwich, Corner Bakery also has a Turkey Pastrami, and Cheese Steak Sandwich.

Now that I have drooling over these tasty treats, head over to Corner Bakery and go get you some pancakes, chilled oatmeal and a tasty Spicy Asian Pork Sandwich.  All new menu items available now at your local Corner Bakery as of July 1, 2014.

Are you a fan of Corner Bakery?  What's your favorite item from the menu?

Disclaimer: I was invited to Corner Bakery media tasting and received a gift certificate for future tasty treats.  All thoughts and opinions are my own and have not been influenced by anyone but my tummy.

Islands Summer Happy Hour Menu

Burgers and Fries oh my!  When it comes to summertime that is what I think of, eating a juicy burger and crispy fries. I was invited to Islands for a menu tasting of the new summer happy hour menu.  The new menu debuts Monday June 16, 2014 and offered in the bar Monday - Friday 3 - 7 pm and Sunday-Thursday 9 pm until closing.

Some menu items are exclusive for the summer time only, like the Hawaiian Sliders with fresh pineapple and Islands special teriyaki sauce.  I have to admit warm pineapple on savory food is not my favorite.  But these little sliders were the bomb.com (yes I went there). LOL  The meat is tender and the flavors all blend so well together.  These sliders are a winner, make sure to try them before the summer menu goes away.

The usual happy hour menu items are still available and you can't go wrong with the classics like buffalo wings. If you are trying to stay on the healthy side, did you know Islands also has salads and soups.

Now lets talk about the summertime drinks.  Islands has an extensive bar menu and special summer drinks. If your like me and not a beer drinker, these tropical and fruity drinks are perfect. Tasty and refreshing drinks pair up perfectly with your burger and fries.

bourbon tea, mai tai, makaha margarita, starwberry daiquiri, spicy mango shandy

Hapa Bourbon Tea

Mai Tai

Makaha Margarita

Hand Shaken Strawberry Daiquiri
Spicy Mango Shandy

I was able to taste all the drinks except the Mai Tai, and all of them are really good.  I personally liked the Hapa Bourbon Tea and Spicy Mango Shandy the best, while my boyfriend loved the Makaha Margarita which is made with pineapple infused tequila by Islands bartenders.  So next time your ready for happy hour make sure to check out Islands and try out the summer menu before its gone.

To make sure you get to taste all the goodness at Islands Summer Menu, I have a GIVEAWAY!

Anaheim Packing House Grand Opening

Anaheim, orange county, OC, grand opening, food, beer, coffee, downtown anaheim,

On May 31, 2014 was the grand opening of the Anaheim Packing House in downtown Anaheim on the corner of Anaheim Blvd and Santa Ana Street.  We have been anticipating the opening since we moved to Anaheim over a year and half ago.  Living about a block away, we have monitoring the progress of this renovation. This was the original orange packing house since 1919 and has now been re-imagined into a food hall and market place. The original building has been preserved and renovated into a beautiful rustic community gathering spot.

oc, anaheim, packing house, events, food, coffee, beer, orange county

The Anaheim Packing House is right next door to a new farmers park, where a weekly farmer market will be held every Sunday. All this just a short walk away from my loft, in the center of downtown Anaheim.

The inside is filled with places to eat, have a drink, coffee and dessert.  Plenty of sitting areas all around the two story building to hang out.  Not all the vendors have opened yet, with about half still in the process of construction.  There is also a few retailers where you can buy different goods such as flowers, candies and kitchen wares.

Its very bright and rustic with modern touches, the decor is very inviting and a relaxing environment. I really just wanted to hang out and spend the whole day there, eating and people watching.

cafe o muerte, coffee bar, cafecito organico, coffee, packing house, anaheim

One of the places I was excited to try, is Cafecito Ogranico (organic coffee) a coffee bar right in the middle of the packing house.   After having 2 different types of coffee drinks, I can say we are definitely fans. There is also a bar, speak easy and juice bar for those non-coffee drinkers.

flowers, daisy, sunflowers, roses, packing house, garden, anaheim

There is a flower cart full of gorgeous blooms which brighten up the entire space. You can go grab a bunch of flowers, have some lunch and coffee or dessert all in one location.

spices, seasonings, bulk, buy, anaheim, packing house,

One of my other faves is the Buy n' Bulk where you can buy spices, nuts, candies and granola in bulk at good prices. The bulk spices and seasonings is genius, just buy what you need, who needs a whole jar of fennel seeds or turmeric for just one recipe.  I really love this concept!

popbar, chocolate, nuts, toppings, sorbetto, gelato, nuts, ice cream,

When we arrived the place was so crowded and full of people enjoying all it has to offer.  Unfortunately since most of the eateries were serving a limited menu, many had sold out of food.  Good for them, but sad for us we didn't get to try any food on opening day.

popbar, anaheim, packing house, pistachio, gelato, nuts, chocolate

We did get try Popbar, hand made sorbetto, gelato and yogurt pops, dipped in you choice of chocolates and toppings like nuts or sprinkles. We had the pistachio gelato pop with milk chocolate and pistachios.  Yup it is as delicious as it looks!

oranges, oc, packing house, anaheim, veronica cid, blogger, latina, foodie

The packing house is very charming with lots of cute and nostalgic touches all around. It has a social room, a old time film room and outdoor sitting area made out of old train car as well as an outdoor venue with fire place and orange grove. I plan to go often and try out all the other eateries and of course have more coffee and desserts.  This is a great place to hang out for the whole family. If your in the Orange County area you need to come check it out, I promise you will not be disappointed.  For more info and list of all the merchants go here.

OC Night Market...Wanna Go?

Have you heard about the OC Night Market? I heard about this awesome event last year, it was actually called the 626 Night Market and was held in Arcadia, CA at the Santa Anita Park. What is a Night Market you ask...in Asia the night markets are these huge, nocturnal phenomenons where hundreds of folks will gather for the sake of commerce and entertainment. Imagine food, shopping and lots of music and dancing. I wasn't able to make it out to the 626 Night Market last year, but this year its coming to the OC. Yup there creators of the awesome event are bringing to Orange County and Downtown LA this year. I will be attending the OC Night Market this weekend. I have a feeling this is gonna be a highlight of my year.

Lifestyle Bloggers National Conference 2014 & Swag Giveaway

So its been a few weeks since I attended the Lifestyle Bloggers National Conference on March 28-29, 2014, but haven't had time for a recap or post. Sometimes life does really get in the way of blogging...seems like spring time is a super busy season for blogging events.  In the past few months I have attended 4 blogger conferences and numerous other blogging related events. I am tired just thinking back at all the fabulous and fun stuff.

I'll give you a quick little recap, of the conference and sharing a fun giveaway at the end.  The Lifestyle Bloggers National Conference is a small conference held in Los Angeles, which is organized by two local groups (Latina Lifestyle Bloggers Collective and SoCal Lady Bloggers).  This was my first time attending and I actually volunteered, as a member of the SoCal Lady Bloggers Network. My job assignment was social media correspondent...which basically meant tweeting during the conference.  This was only my second time taking over a twitter account for an event and being the "official" tweeter.  It was a fun and interesting experience, as you have to make sure you're using the correct hashtag and mentioning the proper people when quoting.  Tweeting for an official account is a whole different experience and can be challenging, but I survived!  LOL

It was a good experience for me since I want to start working more in social media and managing accounts for others, whether its a small business or brand. (Putting it out there in the Universe...anyone listening!)  This conference gave me a taste of what it could be like to manage social media accounts on a professional level. I learned about sites like Hashtracking, which helps you manage and create reports from hashtags. I also used Twubs to monitor the tweets and reply and response to anyone using the official conference hashtags (#LALLBLOG14).  I surely have tons more to learn, but definitely got my feet wet during this conference and hope to be able to work more on social media management.

Here are some highlights from the Lifestyle Bloggers National Conference

stumptown coffee, stonefire girll, daniel musto, ziba beauty, just fab, la mart, dtla
  • Morning Coffee by Stumptown Coffee Roasters - we were treated to ice brewed coffee each morning.  I am a coffee junkie and loved the iced coffee with milk.  Definitely one of the best things about the conference!
  • Lunch by Stonefire Grill and Fresh Brothers Pizza - each day of conference we were treated to a delicious lunch by local restaurants. Let's just say my plates were over flowing on both days with the best, pizza, pasta and salads in town.
  • Ziba Beauty - During the afternoon break of day one, Ziba Beauty treated the bloggers to some beauty treatments of either henna tattoos or eye makeup. I chose the eye makeup, the ladies hooked me up with the most fabulous smokey eye and gave me some good tips on how to apply eyeliner.
  • LA Mart - The conference was held at the LA Mart in Downtown LA. Although the area it self isn't the nicest, the LA Mart is fab. The LA Mart is a beautiful modern building which is home to showrooms of many lifestyle, home and design brands.
  • Keynote Speaker: Daniel Musto - Daniel is a well know celebrity stylist, his speech was very inspiring and motivational. He was also very funny and friendly, making it entertaining to hear him speak.
  • The Swag: At the end of the conference we were all treated to a sweet swag bag which consisted of a handbag from JustFab from Paulina Rubio's Collection and other various treats.

I have a swag bag to share with one lucky reader.  I was given an extra bag to share and I will be conducting the giveaway here on the blog. Enter below to win a swag bag from the Lifestyle Bloggers National Conference.
